Approved project proposals - Macedonia Title: ECO Park CSO Contact: Green Ark Skopje Amount: 8.591 EUR Description: Objectives: Raising public awareness among the citizens and institutions regarding use of the renewable energy sources, waste recycling and arrangement and maintaining of green surfaces. In the last few decades the city of Skopje faced with uncontrolled fast urban development. In this process the ecological standards were neglected which resulted with lowering of the green areas the quality of air and the living standards. The already existing green urban areas are with a low quality and badly arranged. Activities: Preparations and planning of the construction process on location appointed from the Municipality of Karpos, near hotel Alexander Palace on Vardar river; Arranging, cultivating and transforming of 700 m2 ecological devastated (waste land) area into place for rest and relaxation; Increasing of the biodiversity by planting of more then 50 different types of trees, plants and herbs; Creating sustainable eco system based on the principles of permaculture; Construction of the children’s playground, building infrastructure, planting and arranging the green areas; Using of the solar energy in the public areas; Final arrangement and promotional activities. Expected outcomes: Green urban place in industrial zone, near Vardar river, which the citizens of Karpos municipality would enjoy and relax; Raised public awareness among the citizens and institutions on territory of Karpos municipality regarding use of the renewable energy sources, waste recycling and arrangement and maintaining of green surfaces. Enabling of conditions for development of natural eco system which will cause lowering of the ecological footprint of the community. Title: From land field to playground CSO Contact: EA OSOGOVO Amount: 8.970 EUR Description: Objectives: Raising public awareness among the citizens and institutions trough mutual cleaning of the land field and building, arrangement and maintaining of playground. Activities: Cleaning the dump on street "Dimitar Arsov" 120 m3 of solid waste; Covering the surface from 2500m2 with compost (100 m3); Planting a grass and decorative trees and bushes (150 decorative trees); Adapting the green zone to space for rest and recreation for the local people including elements for children recreation; Purchasing and placing 10 benches and 5 trash cans;  Purchasing and placing teeter (two for basket and 2 for football), sand boxes and other elements for children recreation; Fencing of the play ground; Active participation on local population, especially the children and youth, in building and protecting the green zone.  Expected outcomes: Raised public awareness among the citizens and institutions trough mutual cleaning of the land field and building, arrangement and maintaining of playground; Adopted land field into green surface / space from 2500 m2, for rest and recreation for the local people including elements for children recreation; Individuals, families and groups participate in and contribute to community life and wellbeing, share a sense of belonging and connection, respect diversity and enjoy equal opportunity; Developed social, intellectual, physical and emotional skills among children; Motor sensory stimulation, which enhances the natural learning process; Developed imagination and creativity skills; Developed communication, negotiation and listening skills among children from different ethnical groups (Macedonian, Albanian and Roma children). Through play, children learn about themselves, other people, roles, society and their environment; Play also inspires children to awaken their imagination and develop their creative aptitude.   Title: Arrangement of the bus station in city of Berovo CSO Contact: Ecological Association – BRICA Amount: 8.782 EUR Description: Objectives: Improvement of the public infrastructure, raising the safety in the traffic, improvement of the public transport and reduce of the individual use of automobiles. Specific objectives: To improve the accessibility to the basic services in the public transport in Berovo municipality located in the eastern part of Macedonia, in order to improve the life of the people who use it; To improve the public infrastructure- urban development of the town, ; To increase the attractiveness of the town in the direction of its development as a mountain tourist resort (the cultural-historical heritage is reflected in the numerous churches and monasteries in the town and its surrounding. “Berovo Cultural Summer is the key cultural manifestation. The trademark and brand of the municipality is the well-known Berovo white cheese and dairy products, Berovo lamb, potato, honey and plum schnapps from Malesevo).; Activities: Survey regarding the conditions and use of the public transport from local population; Preparation of the complete documentation for the construction of the bus stops; Implementation of tendering procedure for selection of construction contractor; Construction and placement of the bus stop; Promotion and official hand over of the new created bus stations;   Expected outcomes: With the realization of this project would improve the urban appearance of the town, the quality of the life of the people in the Municipality of Berovo; Improvement of safety of traffic participants;  would be improved; 3 bus station will have an attractive appearance, recognized in the future as sign of the municipality for development of mountain eco-tourism which is one of her his strategic regulations (LEAP and Strategy for sustainable development); Reduction of private motor vehicle as main source of air pollution, responsible for more than 80% of the total pollutants emission in the city of Berovo; Title: Use of the nature for development of the tourism CSO Contact: Scout assotiation Krste Jon Struga Amount: 9.890 EUR Description: Objectives: Constructing the hiking trails in length of 10 km on the coast of Ohrid lake, city of Struga; Promotion of values of the shore line and the importance of the reed belt for the eco system of the lake; Establishment of continuous monitoring on the area until may 2009, and archive all changes and usurpations; Completion and sustainable management of tourist area of 10000 meters square on the coast of Ohrid lake, city of Struga. Activities: Establishment a team for implementation of the project activities until June 2009; Choosing a contractor for the infrastructural and horticultural works until July 2008; Construction of the trail and arranging the area around the trail until August 2008 Designing , printing and distribution of 1000 brochures in 3 languages( Macedonian, English and Albanian) about the values of the shore line in July and August 2008; Constructing and placing 3 info board along the trail in July and August 2008; Placing street lights and trash cans along the trail in August 2008; Promoting the possibilities of the NGOs and the local crafts in the region by establishing mini-promotional stands along the trail on Ohrid lake, in the period of August and September 2008; Creating a plan for further activities on the shore line December 2008; Evaluation of the results of the project April 2009. Expected outcomes: Completed trail in length of 300 m with lights and trash cans along the trail; All the existing trails along the shore are connected in one trail of 10km; Decreased usurpation and pollution of the shore line in this part; Increased catch of the fish Carp in the reed belt area of the Ohrid lake; Printed and distributed 1000 brochures in 3 languages about the values of the shore line; Placed 3 info boards along the trail; Continuous monitoring of the area within one year by eco patrols. Placed 10 mini stands for  the Local NGOs to promote crafts and the values of the area; Increased interest of the tourist to visit this location and to learn about the importance of the area; Struga has attractive tourist area of 10000 meters square; Finished plan for further activities and actions on the shore line.     Title: Clean Osogovo region CSO Contact: Citizens committee for developmen Probistip - Macedonia Amount: 8.074 EUR Description: Objectives: Promotion of the practice and knowledge for waste management in Osogovo region trough defining of a model for waste management in chosen settlements. Activities: Promotion of the project trough press conference in the municipalities of Osogovo region; Survey regarding condition with communal and industrial waste treatment in the municipalities of Osogovo region, plans and activities in the future; Preparing and printing a leaflet for the types of defaults and penalties for inappropriate waste disposal; Selection of a pilot-settlement and define of a waste management model in mentioned areas; Organize an action for waste collecting in a chosen settlements; Obtain and distribution of the bags for collecting a selected waste ( row materials); Preparing a calendar for collecting and selecting of the waste in cooperation with the public communal enterprises; Preparing a pilot-contract between the settlements representatives and public communal enterprises; Preparing a leaflet for the selection and waste management; Submitting an initiative for decision making for waste management in rural areas on municipal level, especially in the region, suitable for rural tourism and production of healthy food Preparing and printing of the publication “The treatment of the communal waste and the use of row materials” Evaluation of the project and presentation of the results, submitting reports; Expected outcomes: Raised public awareness regarding illegal waste disposal among the population from Osogovo region; Protection of the natural recourses of Osogovo region; Changed habits of behaviour of the disobedient citizens and institutions towards environment; Reduced the quantities of the communal waste; Raised profit from the row materials; Prepared and distributed educative materials among the population in Osogovo region, regarding the selection of waste and waste management; Reduced number of defaults and penalties related to waste dumping; Clean and beautiful landscape on the whole territory of Osogovo region; Title: Solar energy use trough installation of solar panel in one kindergarten in Skopje CSO Contact: Macedonian occupational safety and health association Amount: 8.017 EUR Description: Objectives: Reducing CO2 emissions trough use of solar energy for preparation of hot sanitary water trough: Decreasing electric energy consumption in the kindergarten; Measuring the financial savings, through decreased  electric energy consumption; Decreasing of consumption of oil produced energy for heating and hot water for sanitation; Building public awareness on ecology in kindergarten and in surrounding area in Skopje. Activities: Establishment of a implementation team; Preparation of the technical project for instalment of solar collectors for hot sanitary water; Instalment of solar collectors in the kindergarten; Preparation and printing of educative materials used in workshops; Implementation of eco-workshops with the children in the kindergarten; Promotion of the project results to other kindergarten in Skopje. Expected outcomes: Decreased emission of CO2 – according the calculation from our case, from 9000 till 10800 kg per  year; Decreased consumption of coal from 10800 kg to 9000 kg per year; Decreased electric energy consumption for heating the sanitary hot water, from 7200 to 6000  KWh per year. Increased eco-awareness through usage of friendly energy resources; 120 children, age from 4 to 6 involved in eco-workshops;/ 32 eco-workshops held, Trained team in the kindergarten that will provide eco-workshops; Experience from realization of this project leading us toward  realization of similar projects. Title: Together for cleaner environment CSO Contact: Scout Association Goce Delcev Amount: 9.148 EUR Description: Objectives: Raising public awareness among the citizens and institutions regarding proper treatment of the solid waste and waste management in the municipality of Sveti Nikole. Activities: Establishing of work group (project team); Media presentation of the project (at the beginning); Carry out a survey for the public opinion regarding issues with the solid waste; Implementing of tendering procedure for purchase of containers; Media covering of all project activities on the local media (constantly); Processing the results from questionnaire; Locating the illegal dumps; Design, preparation, printing and distribution of the eco leaflets; Arranged meeting with the managers of the educational institutions; Preparation and implementation of the first Eco-camp; Stocking the collected and selected waste and its selling; Organizing one Eco tribune; Design, preparation, printing and placing the boards with MORAL MESSAGES; Cleaning the illegal dumps; Activity for choosing the most decorated yard; Preparation and implementation of the second Eco-camp; Evaluation of the achieved results. Expected outcomes: Partial solution of the problem with the solid waste material in Sveti Nikole; Strengthened conscience among the citizens; Enlarging of the green areas in and around the town; Creating conditions for stocking the selected waste material with setting the containers Decreasing the costs for transport of the waste material; Strengthening the cooperation between the Municipality and NGO sector and between both NGO's; Improvement of the living environment, creating positive image for the Municipality like a clean, urban, and healthy environment; Raising ecological awareness among youth for the meaning of a healthy environment and taking action for preserving and promoting a healthy environment. Title: Roma citizens would like to have clean environment as well CSO Contact: Citizens association AVENA Kocani Amount: 8.528 EUR Description: Objectives: Raising public awareness among the citizens and institutions trough mutual cleaning of the land field and building, arrangement and maintaining of playground on the territory of one multiethnic settlement (Macedonian and Roma citizens) in municipality of Kocani. Activities: Cleaning of 3065 m2 illegal land field (solid waste) created on one empty space between the houses in the Roma settlement ; Covering the surface with compost; Adapting the green zone to space for rest and recreation for the local people including elements for children recreation; Purchasing and placing of benches;  Purchasing and placing teeter (for basket and football), sand boxes and other elements for children recreation; Fencing of the play ground; Active participation on local population from the Roma settlement, especially the children and youth, in building and protecting the green zone.  Expected outcomes: Raised public awareness among the citizens and institutions through mutual cleaning of the land field and building, arrangement and maintaining of playground; Adopted land field into green surface / space from 3065m2, for rest and recreation for the local people including elements for children recreation; Individuals, families and groups participate in and contribute to community life and wellbeing, share a sense of belonging and connection, respect diversity and enjoy equal opportunity; Developed social, intellectual, physical and emotional skills among children; Motor sensory stimulation, which enhances the natural learning process; Developed imagination and creativity skills; Developed communication, negotiation and listening skills.
