Green Steps

November 2014 | Website

The Green Steps multimedia toolkit is one of the capacity-building components of the SECTOR project. It aims to improve understanding among citizens of Belarus regarding sustainable lifestyles, citizens’ environmental rights, and changes that individuals can make in their everyday lives to contribute to sustainable development. The primary targets are members of civil society organisations in Belarus, but there is also valuable information for educators, students and families. The Green Steps awareness-raising materials, which can be tailored to individual countries in the future, are divided into four sections: a virtual tour around a number of locations typically visited in the course of everyday activities; information on 28 topics related to environmental protection and sustainable development; a series of 49 factsheets that can be used in educational and group activities; and an encyclopedia containing information on 232 species common to Europe. Users can assess their level of awareness regarding environment and sustainable development issues by playing the interactive game or completing the test.

Green Steps was developed in close cooperation with a number of Belarusian civil society organisations..

Environmental Civil Society Assessment, Moldova

October 2012 | Project document

The Environmental Civil Society Assessment was undertaken in order to review the nature and status of environmental civil society organisations (CSOs) in Moldova, obtain a clear picture of their needs, analyse the challenges and opportunities they face, and identify the major problems that can be addressed by the project “Supporting Environmental Civil Society Organisations" (SECTOR) in Belarus and Moldova”. The assessment was carried out in Moldova in March 2012 and was based mainly on a series of face-to-face interviews with key civil society group representatives, CSO support organisations, legal experts, authorities and donors. The assessment provides specific information for use in designing the three main components of the project: (1) Organisational Viability; (2) Grant and Dialogue Platform Building; and (3) Networking and Capacity Building.

Organisational Viability Toolkit

September 2009 | Publication

The programme "Supporting Environmental Civil Society Organisations" (SECTOR) in South Eastern Europe promotes the development of a vibrant and democratic environmental civil society within SEE countries. Since its launch in April 2006, one of the main objectives of the programme has been to strengthen environmental CSOs by building independent institutions and developing organisations' skills and viability. The main tool for achieving this is the Organisational Viability Toolkit, developed by the programme team on the basis of an initial assessment that was carried out in order to formulate a clear picture of the state of environmental CSOs in the target region. In mid-2006, the team began to develop the toolkit in the pilot country, Croatia. It is hoped that the toolkit, which is freely available in English and five regional languages, will enable other environmental groups, in SEE and beyond, to assess their organisational performance and enhance their capacity.
